National Honey Bee Day
Will be celebrated across our country on
August 18, 2012. The primary goals of the National Honey
Bee Day Program include the promotion and advancement of
beekeeping, education of the public about honey bees and
beekeeping, and public awareness of environmental concerns as they
effect honey bees.
Several local beekeeping clubs
Alachua County Beekeepers Club along with Columbia,
Gilchrist, Levy,
Marion, Lake County,
Lake Area, and any other clubs wishing to
participate are hosting a
National Honey Bee
Day event for the celebration and public awareness of
honeybees. The event will feature displays, demonstrations,
auction, food, drinks, door prizes, Florida Apiary Inspectors
participation in live open-hive demonstrations, a visit from
Earlea Bee, an auction with Florida Ag “Hall of Famer”, Laurence
Cutts from Chipley, Florida as the auctioneer, Alyssa Fine (the
2012 American Honey Queen), some great scientists and longtime
beekeepers speaking about beekeeping and honeybees.
